Biography

Short bio:

Infectious disease specialist at the Lausanne University Hospital and PhD in microbiology from the Rockefeller University, P. Moreillon became full Professor and Director of the Institute of Fundamental Microbiology at UNIL in 2002. His research interests encompass Gram-positive bacterial pathogenesis, endovascular infections, antibiotic resistance and revisiting new antimicrobial strategies such as bacteriophage therapy. He was successively Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine and Vice-Rector for Research of UNIL between 2003 and 2016. He is an active promoter of interdisciplinary between sciences and humanities. He organized the World knowledge dialogue (http://wp.unil.ch/wkdialogue/), the academic discussions with his Holinesses the Dalai Lama and the 17th Karmapa, and co-organized the TEDxLausanne conferences. He is currently president of the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences and active in several scientific philanthropic Foundations.
