INSERM Unit 1073: Nutrition, inflammation and gut-microbiota-brain axis

Anorexia is associated with a dysregulation of the gut-microbiota-brain axis, including central alterations of food intake regulation, neurotransmission, and peripheral alterations of gut barrier, gut microbiota and immune system. Preserving physical activity during refeeding in patients is beneficial for the restoration of body composition, body distribution of fat mass, and is associated with a better psychological well-being through a significant decrease of anxiety. These positive effects of physical activity may be mediated by the gut microbiota.
