Gut microbiota and its role in cancer treatment

Gut microbiota and its role in cancer treatment : Prof. François Giringhelli

Discoveries made in the past recent years indicate that the composition of the intestinal microbiota has a major influence on the effectiveness of anticancer immunogenic chemotherapies and immunotherapies like inhibitors that target cytotoxic T lymphocyte protein 4 (CTLA-4) or the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)-programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) axis.

I will highlight how some bacteria, such as Akkermansia muciniphila, Bacteroides and Faecalibacterium could have a major effect on survival of patients with cancer.
